What an implant bridge is

An implant bridge replaces a run of missing teeth with a single connected restoration that is supported by dental implants in the jaw.

A conventional bridge is carried by the natural teeth on either side of the gap, which means those teeth are prepared to hold it. An implant bridge is carried by implants instead, so neighbouring healthy teeth are not relied on for support.

How many implants support the bridge, and where they sit, is decided for each patient after examination and imaging. This page does not describe a standard configuration.

Who it may be for

A cautious starting point

An implant bridge may be considered when several teeth in a row are missing and the surrounding bone can support implants. Suitability is confirmed only after examination and imaging.

  1. 01Often discussed when more than one adjacent tooth is missing and a single-tooth implant for each is not the chosen direction.
  2. 02May be considered when a patient would rather not have healthy neighbouring teeth prepared to carry a conventional bridge.
  3. 03Whether implants can be placed, and how many, depends on bone support and general health. That assessment happens in the clinic, not on this page.

How treatment is planned

The usual pathway

The sequence below is the general planning pathway. Your own steps come from your examination.
  1. 01

    Assessment

The dentist examines the gap, the neighbouring teeth, your gums, and your general oral health, and discusses what you want from the restoration.

  2. 02

    Imaging / planning

Imaging is used to review bone support and decide whether implants can be placed in that area. Any other care that needs to happen first is discussed before the bridge is planned.

  3. 03

    Treatment

Implants are placed according to the agreed plan. Once the dentist confirms the site is ready, the bridge is made to fit those implants and your bite.

  4. 04

    Follow-up

Fit, bite, and comfort are reviewed after the bridge is fitted. Cleaning around and underneath an implant bridge is shown to you, because it differs from cleaning a single crown.

Published fees

The clinic does not publish a numeric fee for implant bridges. Cost depends on the number of units in the plan. A consultation is required to confirm suitability and the final treatment cost.

Questions

Before you book

How is this different from a regular bridge?

A conventional bridge is supported by the natural teeth on either side of the gap, and those teeth are prepared to carry it. An implant bridge is supported by implants placed in the jaw instead. Which one suits you is a clinical decision made after examination.

How many implants will I need?

That is decided for each patient after imaging and examination. The number depends on the size of the gap, the position in the mouth, and your bone support, so this page does not quote a figure.

What does an implant bridge cost?

Cost depends on the number of units. The clinic does not publish a numeric starting fee for implant bridges. A consultation is required to confirm suitability and the final treatment cost.

How do I clean it?

Cleaning around an implant bridge is different from cleaning a single tooth, and the team shows you how to care for yours after it is fitted. Ongoing hygiene appointments are part of looking after it.
